Welcome to the pages of Light Fantastic Photography and the works of
your host, Don Hall. Although I can only hope to express my
heart-felt
passion for what I do in these few pages, I hope that, through these
images, you will discover some measure of the pleasure that I had
while
taking them.
It's been over 50 years since I was first allowed to use my father's
Kodak Box Brownie camera. I don't really recall if it was that
moment
that kindled my interest in photography; probably not. I do recall,
though, carrying an interest in photography through college
newspaper
assignments. People photography, however, never really interested
me; my
heart has always been, and will always be, outdoors with Mother
Nature.
As a native and resident of the Pacific Northwest, I've had an
opportunity to grow up in one of the most picturesque places on
earth.
The locations in Washington State alone range from seashore to
mountains
and rainforest to the semi-arid regions of the Palouse - a veritable
treasure trove of photographic opportunities.
My photographic interests lie in recording the sights and
impressions of
Nature. From the magnificent landscape vistas to the intimate
vignettes
of flowers and insects, all are subjects likely to catch my
attention.
While "being there" is a reward unto itself, introducing others to
these
sights, so that they may find some pleasure in their busy lives, is
an
added bonus.
Artistic Philosophy
The images within this site are not meant to be journalistic in
nature
but rather reflect the views that I witnessed and the emotions that
I
felt while viewing them. Some degree of post-processing of the
"digital
negatives" is always required to realize my artistic vision. This
may
range from a simple sharpening or contrast adjustment to removal of
distracting objects (beer can, coffee container, or other
hand-of-man
objects). I hope that you will agree, however, that my vision is one
that is based upon reality and one that you could find, given like
circumstances.
Please enjoy your tour through my world. I know that I've enjoyed
bringing it to you.
